As noted below, an OECD and International development Bank study has revealed that trust in governments in latin America is low (and getting lower), and that corruption, or perception of it, is a major factor – in Panama the study said that 86% of respondents thought so. Meanwhile, a different study published by La Prensa says that 84.1% of respondents said they have little or no confidence in the National Assembly in Panama, while 16% said they have total or somewhat confidence in the legislature.
In other news, and despite the very modest increase in the number of Canal transits allowed, it seems that the Cabinet Council has formally agreed the creation of a “dry corridor”, a project involving the railway, roads, airports, special zones and ports to generate greater cargo mobility and simplify customs procedures.
Incidentally, I can’t help noticing that it is “railway” in the name of the Panama Canal Railway, despite it originally having used the US term “railroad”, and despite it being operated by a pair of US railroad companies…
