COMPLIANCE ETC: THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED – MARCH 2

A migrant reception centre in the Darién, valued at $1.9 million, has burned down, with 44 migrants arrested. It seemingly followed an argument between 2 migrant women over a tent, which ended in a “tumultuous fight” between the groups of those who were present. It is said that around 250 people destroyed destroyed official and civilian vehicles, and 10 modular units, as well as the site’s reception centre. Established in November 2022, the centre had 544 beds and provided essential services to the irregular migrants, such as water, electricity, bathrooms, a kitchen and food storage area, a dining room and a clinic for the medical care.

Another report today about an odd situation as the elections approach. This from the San Miguelito district of Panama City where, according to the Electoral Registry, there are 251,303 registered citizens who will be able to vote in the general election in May. However, according to Census data, the total number of residents over the age of 18 is just 212,399.
