A major money laundering investigation has seen 11 arrests in various parts of Panama, including that of a wanted man, already convicted over membership of criminal gangs. He was arrested in an upmarket residential complex in the upmarket Costa del Este area of the city. The operation was apparently targeting the San 23-Jordán 23 gang. It is reported that the fugitive arrested also owned a luxury residence in Colón, and when arrested he was accompanied by the daughter of a politician who is also said to be linked to another property owned by the fugitive in El Valle (another area with some very nice houses).
I had been thinking about a visit to Costa del Este, so might have seen something. However, instead I was on a bus which was diverted due to roadworks on a side road, then got stuck in the unexpected diversion, and doubled back on its route, so that we nearly ended up where we started. In the end we walked to where we wanted to go instead…
