GENERAL COURT OF THE EU SUSPENDS THE EFFECT OF EU TARGETED SANCTIONS ON RACING DRIVER NIKITA MAZEPIN PENDING THE MAIN HEARING

On 6 March, the EU Sanctions blog reported that the court for the first time suspended the effect of EU targeted sanctions on an individual pending the main hearing of the case in which he challenges his inclusion on the EU sanctions list.  The man was designated in September 2022 on the grounds that the company of which his father was chairman is the main sponsor of his Formula 1 team.  The court also allowed him to enter the EU to take steps strictly necessary to negotiate his recruitment as a Formula 1 driver provided that he undertook to race under a neutral flag.
