The Carnivale holidays continue, although the big parade is not until Tuesday. Big crowds and lots of water, as they spray the crowd with water from tankers (no, I don’t know why). seemingly this is part of what they call “culecos”, “a form of popular fun with water, music and fancy dresses” – and culecos means “broody” (again, no idea what this is supposed to mean…).
An oddity here is the paying of a thirteenth month’s salary, which is paid after the carnival and just before the new school year begings. 272,000 public workers and others will receive the payment on 24 February.
Meanwhile, with seemingly no settlement in the dispute over the huge copper mine, the company running it says that on 23 February it will suspend the processing operations due to the lack of storage capacity.
