The newspapers report a death from hanta virus, the second this year. In the latest case, a 71-year-old man developed fever, shortness of breath and diarrhea, health officials said, and was given assisted mechanical ventilation. 2 other patients (a 76-year-old man and 27-year-old woman) are also suspected of having the virus, with the woman in the ICU. The previous death was a 34-year-old from the same province.

THE UK ADDS 2 NAMES TO CYBER SANCTIONS REGIME

A Notice from HM Treasury advised that Mikhail ISKRITSKIY and Dmitry PLESHEVSKIY, Russian nationals, have been added to the cyber sanctions regulations.

IN A COORDINATED ACTION, THE UK AND US HAVE IMPOSED ANTI-CORRUPTION SANCTIONS ON A NUMBER OF BULGARIAN NATIONALS AND ENTITIES

On 10 February, the EU Sanctions blog reported that OFAC and HM Treasury. The latter has designated Delyan Peevski, a former MP and media mogul, Ilko Zhelyazkov, a former national security official and board member of Bulgaria’s largest state energy company, and Vasil Bozhkov, who is reported to be Bulgaria’s richest man. OFAC listed 5 former government officials and 5 entities.

OFAC SYRIA SANCTIONS GENERAL LICENSE TO AID IN EARTHQUAKE DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS

On 9 February, OFAC issued General License 23 which authorises for 180 days all transactions related to earthquake relief that would be otherwise prohibited by the Syrian Sanctions Regulations. It provides the broad authorization necessary to support immediate disaster relief efforts in Syria.
