THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED – FEBRUARY 9

Well, following on from the news of the threat from upset Africanised “killer” bees, today’s newspapers report that Panama Fire Department reported that in January of this year 3,135 emergencies were attended, 54% more than in the same month of 2022. 1,112 calls involved the presence or attack of Africanised bees – a 40% increase from the 635 incidents in January last year.

In other concerns…11 new cases of monkeypox have been reported – 127 men and 2 women.

Meanwhile, the local press carried a Statista report saying that Costa Rica has the highest minimum wage in Latin America, totaling about $603 per month in January 2023, while Panama is at eight with $326 per month.
