THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED – JANUARY 21

Well, back home, but things not really back to normal, thanks to long, unannounced power cut…

Meanwhile, in the first 20 days of 2023, more than 12,000 irregular migrants have crossed the Darién border, according to the deputy director of the National Migration Service, with an increase in nationals from Ecuador, Haiti, and Colombia. The number of irregular migrants who arrived in Panama on their way to the US almost doubled in 2022, reaching a record of 248,000, and more than half were Venezuelans.

Meanwhile, following the news of the numbers of dengue cases, in the first 2 weeks of 2023 there were 257 reported cases of malaria. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the indigenous region of Guna Yala, Darién and the Ngäbe Buglé region, are the regions with the most confirmed cases.
