Some good news is that the Panamanian Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), is to purchase from China 5 electric buses that will be used to implement the first green route in the country and be used within Casco Viejo, the old Spanish Colonial area of Panama City, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most visited tourist sites in the country. It’s a shame that the old trams (the tracks of which are still evident in the area) stopped – but that was during World War 2. What they need to do not is make it a pedestrian area, except for the new buses and access to the Presidential house.

In other news, it is reported that the Speaker of the National Assembly had asked the Minister of Public Security to withdraw Bill 625, which adopts the legislation of extinction of domain of illicit assets (civil asset forfeiture) in the country, for “multiple shortcomings”. In response, the Minister said “enough of surveys, enough of consultations, it’s time to sit down at the table and discuss the project, analyse, make changes and start with something”. The current version of the Bill was introduced in April 2021 and has got nowhere so far.
