On 11 December, Politico carried an explainer about the scandal in the EU, described as the “most serious,” “most shocking,” “most egregious” corruption scandal to hit Brussels in years. A series of at least 16 raids by the Belgian federal police netted 5 people they said had committed “alleged offenses of criminal organisation, corruption and money laundering”.
