WHAT WEB3 AND THE BLOCKCHAIN REVOLUTION MEAN FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

On 18 August, an article on the Government Communications Network explained that the foundational technology of Web3 is the blockchain, a distributed public ledger that records information, including cryptocurrency transactions, non-fungible token (NFT) and smart contracts. Information is maintained using a network of decentralised nodes, which require a consensus to add new records.  It warns that a decentralised internet is an opportunity for criminals and terrorists to exploit an unregulated, anonymous and decentralised landscape.
