UN VOTES TO BAN SMALL ARMS SALES TO HAITI AS GANG DEATHS SOAR

On 18 July, ABC News in Australia reported that the UN Security Council has unanimously voted to ban some weapon sales to Haiti after 99 people were reported killed in recent fighting between rival gangs in the Cité Soleil district alone.  The Resolution calls on all countries to stop the transfer of small arms, light weapons and ammunition to anyone in Haiti supporting gang violence and criminal activity.  It also threatens targeted sanctions against criminal gangs and human rights abusers in Haiti.
