DRUG-SMUGGLING “DRONE SUBMARINES” SEIZED FOR FIRST TIME IN SPAIN

On 5 July, Yahoo News reported that Spanish police said that they had seized 3 underwater drones – unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) – capable of transporting large quantities of drugs from Morocco to Spain and broken up a gang suspected of manufacturing them.  Each drone could carry up to 200 kg (440 lb) of product.  It is said that the devices could allow drug traffickers to transport large quantities of narcotics remotely across the Strait of Gibraltar, and the gang also manufactured aerial drones, with police seizing several large UAV.
