On 28 January, the Guardian reported that the Home Secretary had decided that Mike Lynch, the tech entrepreneur once hailed as the UK answer to Bill Gates, faces extradition to the US to answer criminal fraud charges. In a civil case decided this week, Lynch was found to have defrauded US company HP by manipulating accounts of his company to inflate the value of the company. He has always denied the accusation and said that he would appeal. But the outcome of that trial also coincided with a deadline for the Home Secretary to decide whether Lynch could be extradited to the US, after he lost a High Court bid that would have given her more time to decide.
