IRELAND: REVENUE SEIZE NITROUS OXIDE CANISTERS WORTH OVER €1.9 MILLION IN MEATH AND DUBLIN

A news release from the Revenue Commissioners on 2 December advised that, as part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized 59,135 nitrous oxide canisters at premises in Counties Meath and Dublin, with an estimated retail value of more than €1.9 million.  While this product is legitimately used in the catering industry, Revenue has a range of powers to detain and seize psychoactive substances in instances where there are reasonable grounds for believing that the goods being imported are not intended to be utilised for legitimate purposes.
