COLOMBIA: SPIDER SMUGGLERS CAUGHT TRYING TO SNEAK 232 TARANTULAS IN TINY PLASTIC POTS

On 4 December, the Daily Star reported that 2 Germans were found at an airport in Bogota with 210 plastic containers filled with tarantulas, spider eggs, roaches and scorpions – claiming they were smuggling them for research purposes.  Colombia is a target for wildlife traffickers drawn by its biodiversity and officials confirmed that more than 11,000 specimens have been seized so far this year.
