THE FRENCH GROUPE CASTEL COMPANY TO PROBE ALLEGATIONS OF AFRICAN MILITIA SUPPORT IN CAR

On 22 August, BNN Bloomberg reported that French beverage company Groupe Castel has started an inquiry into a report that said a unit had aided militia accused of “mass atrocities” in the Central African Republic in exchange for the security of its sugar assets.

HONG KONG: IMPLEMENTATION OF MANDATORY REFERENCE CHECKING SCHEME

On 11 August, Baker McKenzie published a briefing about a public consultation to address the “Rolling Bad Apples” phenomenon, issued on 3 May.  The briefing summarises the currently proposed MRC Scheme, the consultation having ended on 7 August.  The “Rolling Bad Apples” are individuals who engaged in misconduct during their employment in the institutions but are able to obtain subsequent employment elsewhere without disclosing their earlier misconduct to the new employer.
