UK: ICO CONSULTS ON NEW AGREEMENT FOR DATA TRANSFERS OUTSIDE THE UK

On 13 August, an article from Out-Law says that multinational businesses will welcome a UK regulator’s move to draft a UK-specific contractual addendum that they will be able bolt on to EU standard contractual clauses (SCC) concerning the international transfer of personal data.  The Information Commissioner’s Office has issued a consultation, alongside a new draft international data transfer agreement (IDTA). The draft IDTA is in effect the UK equivalent of the EU SCC.

PAKISTAN COMPLIANT OR LARGELY COMPLIANT ON 35 FATF RECOMMENDATIONS

On 14 August, The International News in Pakistan reported that FATF-style regional body APG has found Pakistan compliant or largely compliant on 35 out of the 40 FATF Recommendations dealing with AML/CFT.  This was claims in a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, following the results of Pakistan’s third Mutual Evaluation follow-up report on 12 August.

OFAC ADDS 2 INDIVIDUALS AND TROPAS DE PREVENCION TO CUBA SANCTIONS LISTS

On 13 August, OFAC announced that Pedro Orlando MARTINEZ FERNANDEZ; Romarico Vidal SOTOMAYOR GARCIA; and TROPAS DE PREVENCION (TDP) to

sanctions lists.  It is said that this is the third round of sanctions since protests started in Cuba on 11 July 11, as the US Treasury continues to aggressively target persons in connection with actions to suppress peaceful, pro-democratic protests in Cuba.

OFAC ADDS AN OMANI INDIVIDUAL, 4 MIDDLE EAST ENTITIES AND AN ADDITIONAL VESSEL TO SANCIONS LISTS

In addition to the listing of 2 persons and an entity in Cuba, OFAC has added an Omani said to have connections to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and acting on behalf of Iran, 4 entities linked to the Omani, broker Mahmood Rashid Amur Habsi, and the Oman Pride, a Liberian-flag tanker.
