US: UNDERSTANDING YOUR ROLE AS AN IMPORTER IN FORCED LABOUR COMPLIANCE

On 10 June, Global Trade Magazine published this article which starts by saying that, at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, “well over 100 shipments [are] on hold pending determination of admissibility due to suspicion of forced labour”.  It says that importers must understand their responsibilities related to vetting suppliers for forced labour or face potential penalties for non-compliance.

UNCOVERING CORRUPT SCHEMES IN THE FOREST SECTOR

On 3 June, an article from CMI, an independent development research institute in Norway, says that thorough undercover investigations have helped to uncover corrupt schemes to import illegal timber from the Congo, Cameroon and Nigeria to China and Vietnam. It says that corruption needs to be tackled at every stage of the supply chain – from country of origin to destination. It asks what role can investigations play?  It introduces the latest podcast which discusses how investigations can help shine a light on corruption in the forest sector, catalyse enforcement and illustrate concrete actions to tackle corrupt practices.

INCOTERMS 2020 APP

The International Chamber of Commerce has launched an updated mobile phone app to ensure that the 2020 edition of the trade terms was more accessible and easier to use.  It says that after 70,000 downloads and feedback from our diverse and international trading community, it has revamped the app to offer even more free and exclusive Incoterms rules content.  The Incoterms rules define important responsibilities of buyers and sellers for the transport and delivery of goods under B2B sales contracts and serve as authoritative rules for determining how certain key costs and risks are allocated between buyer and seller.  The app is available free of charge and easily downloadable via the Apple App Store and Google Play.
