On 17 May, White & Williams LLP published an article which says that the explosive growth of sports betting in the US has opened the door to a variety of new business opportunities for firms in the technology, hospitality, marketing, and financial services industries.  It says that state licensing and compliance requirements apply not only to sportsbook operators, but also to those doing business with sportsbook operators, such as vendors and suppliers. The article provides an overview of these vendor and supplier requirements, some of which may be surprising to those unfamiliar with the gaming industry.

On 17 May, OFAC announced that OFAC had designated 16 individuals and 1 entity connected to Burma’s military regime.  13 of the individuals sanctioned are key members of Burma’s military regime.  The other 3 individuals are adult children of previously designated senior Burmese military officials.  The entity designated is the State Administration Council (SAC), the body created by the military to support its unlawful overthrow of the democratically elected civilian government.

On 17 May, OFAC announced that it had designated 3 individuals and 1 entity in connection with ISIS.  The individuals and company being designated are said to have played a crucial role connecting ISIS with a network of international donors and enabled ISIS to access the financial system in the Middle East.  This action coincides with the latest meeting of the Counter ISIS Finance Group (CIFG), which includes nearly 70 countries and international organisations, and plays a fundamental role in coordinating efforts to deny ISIS access to the international financial system and eliminate its sources of revenue.
