SOUTH AFRICA: FRAUD, 60 CHARGES AND A WEB OF PAYMENTS – THE STATE’S CASE AGAINST THE FREE STATE “ASBESTOS 7”

On 2 October, News 24 and others reported that the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has frozen R300 million worth of assets belonging to the asbestos removal corruption accused, including palatial homes and a fleet of luxury cars.  The 7 accused appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court where they were granted bail and had to surrender their passports.  They include former government officials and businessmen and they face a total of 60 charges.
