US PARTIALLY LIFTS DECADES-OLD ARMS EMBARGO ON CYPRUS

On 2 September, Al Jazeera reported that the US has said it will lift for 1 year its arms embargo imposed on Cyprus in 1987 to allow ” non-lethal defence articles and defence services” to be supplied.  This move comes as there is growing tension in the eastern Mediterranean over Turkey’s surveying and drilling activities.  Turkey, which supports Northern Cyprus, condemned the US action.
