US ADDS ADDED TO ENTITY LIST 11 CHINESE COMPANIES IMPLICATED IN HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND ABUSES AGAINST UIGHURS, KAZAKHS AND OTHER MEMBERS OF MUSLIM MINORITY GROUPS IN THE XINJIANG REGION

On 21 July, the EU Sanctions Blog reported that 9 of these companies are said to have engaged in forced labour practices, whilst the others allegedly conducted genetic analyses used to further the repression of Muslim minority groups.  The Entity List is maintained by the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), which has also modified the licence review policy for 37 entities in China, which were added to the Entity List previously.  The Entity List involves the names of certain foreign persons – including businesses, research institutions, government and private organizations, individuals, and other types of legal persons – that are subject to specific licence requirements for the export, reexport and/or transfer (in-country) of specified items.
