On 22 June, Clifford Chance published a guide which sets out to provide an introduction to esports, the key stakeholders involved and some of the challenges facing an industry which had an estimated global audience exceeding 440 million viewers in 2019 and is forecast to generate revenue between $1.8 billion and $3 billion by 2022. In particular, it looks at the monetisation of esports, and how intellectual property (IP) rights (and the enforcement of such rights) will be crucial for the stakeholders involved and will shape how the industry develops.
