GIBRALTAR RELEASES GRACE 1

On 15th August, a statement from the Gibraltar Government announced that it had released the ship on the grounds that there are no longer any reasonable grounds for the continued legal detention of the Grace 1 in order to ensure compliance with the EU Sanctions Regulation.  It is said that it has been confirmed that the ship was carrying oil to the Baniyas oil refinery in Syria, and that the vessel owned by the National Iranian Oil Company has been re-flagged and reinsured, and assurances given by Iran that its destination will not be a sanctioned entity.
