A VISIT TO THE NUCLEAR WASTE ISOLATION PILOT PLANT IN CARLSBAD, NEW MEXICO

A feature on the Stimson website is concerned with a visit to a deep geological repositories (DGR), which are widely considered the best, safest option for the permanent disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF).  2 exports from the Stimson Center visited the only deep geological repository in the US – the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant which is licensed to permanently dispose of transuranic (TRU) radioactive waste for 10,000 years from nuclear weapons production facilities and clean-up sites.  A fascinating article with some great photos.
