On 2nd February, UNIAN in Ukraine cited a report from Bild in Germany that Russian drones that have crashed in Ukraine have used “folding propellers” manufactured in Germany, and these being used on several drone types. There is a general ban on providing such “dual-use” items to Russia in German law. The propellers appear to have originated with model manufacturers and/or suppliers.
The Miami Herald on 1st February reported that federal authorities accuse Orlando gun shop owners of conspiring with a Haiti senator and others to ship firearms and ammunition from the US to Haiti without a licence. The firearms were concealed in a white Mitsubishi Fuso commercial work truck that had been shipped from Palm Beach County. The case is said to spotlight the failure of the US arms embargo on Haiti since 1991 and the lack of political will in that country to suppress the illegal arms trade. Haiti is said to be awash in illegal weapons, with politicians long accused of funnelling arms to gangs while others are being protected by armed militias.
