US TREASURY SANCTIONS COMMANDERS AND UNITS OF THE BURMESE SECURITY FORCES FOR SERIOUS HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES

On 17th August, OFAC announced that it had designated 4 Burmese military and Border Guard Police (BGP) commanders and 2 units of the Burmese armed forces under Executive Order (E.O.) 13818, which builds upon the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act 2016 to target perpetrators of serious human rights abuse and corruption.  The measure results from their involvement in ethnic cleansing in Burma’s Rakhine State and other widespread human rights abuses in Burma’s Kachin and Shan States.
