OFAC ADDS 1 NAME TO ITS TERRORISM SANCTIONS LIST (UPDATE)

On 13th August, OFAC added Qassim Abdullah Ali Ahmed of Iran to its list of designated persons.

Qassim Abdullah Ali Ahmed is an Iran-based leader of the al-Ashtar Brigades, and is said by the US authorities to have recruited terrorists in Bahrain, facilitated weapons and explosives training for members of the group and has supplied members with funding, weapons and explosives to carry out attacks.  He has also been identified as being involved in a plot to assassinate prominent figures in Bahrain and target 3 oil pipelines,  The al-Ashtar Brigades was designated by OFAC in July, with the US Treasury claiming that the group aims to overthrow the Bahraini government and that it had claimed responsibility for numerous terror attacks against police and security targets.
