FATF has released a list of the objectives set by the US for its term in the presidency of FATF for a year from July 2018, these being –

  • Combating WMD proliferation financing
  • Combating the financing of terrorism
  • Clarifying how FATF standards apply to virtual currencies
  • Continue efforts to see how fintech and regtech can assist in combating illicit finance, increasing financial inclusion and potential reduce compliance and supervisory costs; and how FATF standards apply in the context of digital identity
  • Enhance engagement with the private sector
  • Support work to strengthen the capacity of FATF-style regional bodies (like Moneyval)
  • Explore the role of FATF in providing technical assistance
