BRAZILIAN POLICE ARREST HEAD OF GE LATIN AMERICA AND 21 OTHERS IN CORRUPTION PROBE

Baker McKenzie on 5th July reported that Brazilian police arrested a senior General Electric Co executive, Daurio Speranzini Jr, as part of an investigation called Operation Resonance into fraud in medical equipment tenders overseen by health authorities in the state of Rio de Janeiro.  Federal police were also carrying out 21 arrest warrants as part of the investigation, which involves some 37 companies.  The article says that the arrest of high-profile political and business persons has become commonplace in Brazil in recent years.
