On 24th May, an OFAC news release advised that 3 individuals (including one in Istanbul) with links to Meraj Air and Mahan Air have been added to its sanctions lists.  Also added were 6 businesses (4 in Turkey) also linked to Meraj Air and Mahan Air and including Blue Airways, Dena Airways and Otik Aviation.  A large number of aircraft owned or linked to Meraj Air, Mahan Air, Caspian Airlines and Pouya Air were also listed.

The US Treasury said that designated Iranian airlines rely heavily on front companies across the world who illicitly procure the parts and services required to sustain their fleets.  Front companies like those being designated today employ deceptive measures to illegally obtain controlled US parts from suppliers.

OFAC is designating Turkish citizen Gulnihal Yegane and a network of Istanbul-based firms, including Trigron Lojistik, RA Havacilik, and 3G Lojistik, for enabling designated Iranian airline Mahan Air to secure key aviation goods and services and sustain its fleet of Western-manufactured aircraft.
